Bicycle Generator

Bicycle Generator

Using an alternator, mountain bike and an inverter, we build a bicycle generator, and make 110 volt electricity, run a human-powered 220 Watt food processor, and more! Ahhh…the power! To see it charge cell phones and power a TV, check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0x5j8_PKZw

  1. If intead of the bocycle wheel powering the alternator why dont use the motor of the grinder and make it perpetual…. is it possible?

Food processor is a large load too, I’m impressed.

Now I’m going to chop an onion. Trust me, it’s happening behind the GIANT AD that’s now appearing on your screen

You could literally install a blade on the axle, lmao

  8. charles hightower March 30, 2021 @ 10:56 pm

Why not just connect the bicycle directly to the chopper LOLOL
Great video however most vehicles will continue running off of the alternator with battery completely removed.
    Great work !!!!!

  9. You could add three or four more alternators, let them run against a bike tire instead of off a belt, and use them to charge a battery bank.

  10. tothedirtwhenidie March 30, 2021 @ 10:58 pm

B******* I call b******* you have no kinetic energy battery except for your legs and one aluminum rim you expect me to believe that that thing to carry the torque necessary to turn that alternator when engaged? That’s not real footage that’s doctor to appear like it’s not plugged into the electrical outlet clearly fraud

  11. I made this for my friends gym. Your power for phone power. Then next paragraph how much exercise do you need to power your phone?

  12. Can you talk about how this might be used to charge up a battery for future energy use?

  13. Ok, so even 10 years ago, people already never measured the current for their generators.

  14. Imagine it with 180mm cranks (asuming yours are shorter, I believe they are) and a 54 x 11 gear ratio with a fixed-gear rear cog, which self-propels and sort of keeps pedaling under its own momentum!!! Much easier on the legs once up to speed.

Great concept, im curious to see the potential of this brilliant thing

  15. Try to build this generator using the recumbent bike style. It’s more comfortable and your hands stay free.

How many amps produce with cycling these alternator pleasessssssssss tell me sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Let鈥檚 start with some simple math. If one person were to hop on a bicycle generator for one hour, they would produce roughly 0.11 kWh. One hour of pedaling is no small feat (just ask any SoulCycle enthusiast). To start, you would be able to power one 100 watt light bulb for an hour. Fair enough. But powering your entire house for 24 hours is a whole different story. The average American household uses around 30 kWh per day. Since cycling on a bicycle generator for one hour produces about 0.11 kWh, we can use the following equation to determine how much electricity you can contribute to your home鈥檚 daily energy usage:

0.11 kwh bicycle energy / 30 kWh average household use per day = 0.37% average household kWh use per day

At 0.37%, the one hour of hard work that you put into cycling only amounts to a measly five minutes of electricity powered by a bicycle generator. From a practical standpoint, this should not be considered a sustainable method of providing energy to your home.

For the sake of fun, and an homage to the fact that we do not have to do everything on our own, let鈥檚 see what we can accomplish when we work together. In the average group cycling fitness class, there are usually 50 bikes in a studio. If all of the cyclists were plugged into generators for the entirety of the club-thumping 60 minute class, we can calculate how much energy the group can put towards your home鈥檚 electricity usage:

    50 cyclists x 0.11 kWh bicycle energy = 5.5 kWh bicycle energy

5.5 kWh bicycle energy / 30 kWh average household use per day = 18.3% average household kWh use per day

At 18.3%, a group fitness class of 50 cyclists still only contribute four and a half hours of electricity for your home. In order to power your house for an entire 24 hours, you would have to rally about 6 classes per day at your local spin studio. That鈥檚 a dedicated community of cyclists.

  26. i want to buy this generator with this arrange ment i want to know approxmate price please

  27. Trabant E Drive March 30, 2021 @ 11:16 pm

I have a video on the channel. It shows what a generator is capable of without hall sensors with a 38A controller and a supply voltage of up to 95V. A 150a Bosch generator at 1700 watts pulls a car weighing 600 + kg. And this is incomplete power. I wish you success in your big projects. Like from me unambiguously

  28. how much amp it generates

  33. so while the bike is runing u switch the buton back OFF right? and u still get 12v power out of generator?….but what happend if u put insted of switch buton just a light bulb? and also didi u use any diode on excitations cable?

  34. I hope you guys don’t have electric heat!!
    Lol

This kind of machines should be installed in places such as airports, so people can charge their mobile devices and give some surplus to the electric infrastructure

hey try an ebike on a charger with the one that turn at the frame with just the pedal assist should do it and you could turn multiples of alternators then you would get the 6 million views in a year instead of ten.
