While reviewing the new double-battery fat bike from FTH Power, I got to visit their headquarters in City of Industry, California near Walnut California. These guys started out in the electronics repair business and then branched into ebikes and battery replacement repair services based on interest from partner brands and shops. They now offer a way to get your ebike battery repaired if one cell isn’t working, repacked with brand new cells, expanded with more power (a higher capacity), and they recycle the old cells. These guys are hazmat certified to ship anywhere in the US but can also work directly with people who drive to their warehouse. I thought it was a neat service and was impressed with their track record and professionalism. Seems like a great opportunity for people who have electric bikes that were made by companies that no longer exist or those who are looking for a more affordable option to keep their bike going than buying a brand new battery.
FTH Power has been around since 1997, repairing electronics like Kenwood stereo systems and other automobile electronics. They got into ebikes around 2016 and use them with their families for fun. The company is a partnership between the two gentlemen shown in the video. They estimate that the battery life for most ebike packs is about three years. Most replacement packs are priced $500 to $900 but their repair service costs around $300. They said that you can extend the lifespan of a lithium-ion battery pack by keeping it away from extreme heat and cold. FTH Power works with local customers directly, sometimes offers pickup and delivery, and they also partner with local shops like Sam’s Electric Bicycle Center in Fullerton, CA.
The first step is for the company to receive your battery, then they hook it up to a machine that charges and discharges to identify the issue, then they give you a quote so you know how much it will cost and what repairs or replacement services are needed. In most cases, they also replace the battery management system BMS circuit boards too, which helps to ensure that everything is safe and functioning properly. Most ebike manufacturer companies in the us may produce batteries, but not have facilities for repairs… so that’s a big part of what FTH Does, work for those companies. These guys are awesome. I took my ebike battery and they rejuvenated it back to the original mileage I had when bought. My battery is five years old. The place I bought my ebike from left the country so someone recommended this place. I took it on a friday and got it back the following thursday. The bike is running smooth, lots of mileage per charge now.

300 for a refurbished batter? you can get one brand new for that… why would you refurbish for the same price as new? this is why e-bikes while environmentally friendly is MUCH more expensive than just using something like a gasoline powered moped which can get 80 to 100 miles to the gallon of gas while a battery may get you 8 to 10 miles per charge and only last 800 charges. broken technology.

I just received my battery from them. They charged me $113 and paid $80 to send it Hazmat certified. The report says they charged it, discharged it and sent it back. They didn’t provide me any analysis as they claimed in the video and they refused to connect me to any technical person. They are very dishonest, scam company and I’m already doing my best to tell people not to deal with them!

I could not find the battery for my izip 24 volt, and when I did it was $700 got I took a Kobalt 24 volt battery ($29 and $8 speed control switch ) and now everything works great. I don’t use the throttle control just to switch I put on a handlebars that is variable speed

I live about 40 minutes from this place. Do they do drop offs? hehe the shipping on batterys is more than the a tank of gas.
I have a phantom x2 I bought used. The battery sits on top of rack but it different the life 04 it’s got right angles . As soon as I plug it in ten minutes later it says it’s charged but now it wasn’t power my bike at all. Do u know how I can replace it did it? P please help

Great Video, It also sucks how there is so much red tape when it comes to shipping batteries. Hazmat Shipping is out of control, to many hands in that cookie jar, I should Know I have the Hazmat Endorsement on my license and I was also Hazmat Certified Who loaded planes with Hazmat. I have a Surface604 fat tire canadian made bike I bought from Canada and the battery is dead, No help from Surface 604, can’t find a replacement battery anywhere, poor bike jut sits in the shed. Thanks for this option, I’m also SoCal so maybe I’ll bring the battery directly to them to repair.
The repair service department is bad. Advertise with high tech testing machine, but got reply after 8 days, unable to open Bosch battery pack. Bad customer service on battery pack repair. Do not trust them for battery repair.

Good safe packs are potted. You can’t repair potted packs. I would never use a non potted battery pack for an ebike.
It has soft battery and for some reason it’s dif. It has right angles and two neg and two pos prongs that go into battery

I have not had a good experience with a battery rebuild. I had to explain multiple times that the battery was 52v (14s), the FTH provided shipping boxes were rejected by the carrier, the cost was significantly higher than quoted, one the batteries was shipped back to me fully charged (not partially charged) and one of the batteries does not reliably work. This is a great idea, however much more attention to the customer experience is needed. I’ll post a positive update if the issues are resolved, however I am quite disappointed and can not recommend FTH at this point.
I have a CYCBT battery pack that has no output. The charger can detect the battery on the input and can tell me when it’s charged, but the output side is dead. When I push the button on the battery it shows a full charge. I checked the fuse, it’s fine. I’m a little confused. I’ve heard these batteries have a BMS. Could that be the problem? What should I try?
