Top 5 – Mispronounced Cycling Brands

Few things rile up cyclists more than mispronounced names, be it brands or brand gurus, and we’re very guilty this particular linguistic crime here at BikeRadar.

So we’ve done a bit of research, and determined – to the best of our abilities – the absolute correctest way to say the five most commonly mispronounced brand names.

    The funny thing about SRAM is that in Polish it literally means "I’m shitting".
    That’s why we either try to avoid boasting about our SRAM parts loudly, or we switch to Shimano 🙂

  5. I think it is awesome that a person named Aoife (ee-fa) did this one, since it is a really commonly mispronounced name! (My daughter’s name is Aoife too)

    I was truly shocked by Bontrager😱 – Yet Schwalbe was a no brainer (I happen to live in German-speaking Austria😁) BTW – How does one pronounce "3T"???😂

  25. So many people call SRAM here in germany S-RAM, or SCHRÄM. Only some call it by it’s name… xD Why tf S-RAM?? That’s like S-Himano! Why Schräm? I called it just like it has to be called. But for being funny, I call that american brand with the typical german name with a hard german pronunciation "Schramm". Got another one for you: Marzocchi Some call it Martzoschi or Marrzo’CH’i (with a german CH! in the middle…

  29. what about commencal i hear people mispronounce my bike all the time and i gotta know if it’s my pronunciation that’s wrong or other peoples “com-men-sal” is how i say it others go “com-meng-kal” and other variations of that

    And Willier? I’ve heard people saying "willier", as a english pronunciation, but I think the correct is "Viler", using the V sound instead of W.

    Nice try. But like Germans can’t pronounce "squirrel", English-speaking people can’t pronounce "Schwalbe".

  39. "Yiant" (Giant): possibly one of the most refined Spanish-style mispronounced names (and there are quite a few).

  40. Nope. Still mispronounced Schwalbe. Just look at how the German word "Schwalbe" is pronounced.
