Trek Powerfly 5 Electric Mountain Bike Test Drive

Trek Powerfly 5 Electric Mountain Bike Test Drive

Had the opportunity to take a Trek Powerfly 5 e-MTB (electric mountain bike) for a test drive for a few hours and have to say it was pretty cool!

The Powerfly 5 is a pedal assist electric bike that will activate when you pedal. There are 4 different modes – Eco, Tour, EMTB and Turbo.

I honestly didn’t play around with the modes too much and kept it in Turbo most of the time.

I probably should have kept it in EMTB mode as apparently that mode senses the power input of the rider and provides the appropriate power boost as detected all automatically.

If you are thinking about buying one, the best thing to do if you’re not certain is either take one for a test drive or rent one at a bike shop near you. It’s a lot cheaper than taking a plunge as this thing sells for about $3,000 – $4,000+ depending on condition (new/used/etc.).
