2019 CABDA West Bicycle Expo (Jan 16-17)

2019 CABDA West Bicycle Expo (Jan 16-17)

This was my first time attending CABDA West, and it’s actually the first time the show has been held outside of Chicago! The show received a lot of positive attention and higher than expected attendance with a large number of electric bike dealers present. The idea of the show is for business to business connections (B2B) where brands can share their products and dealers can shop around and get wholesale pricing for the upcoming season. 2019 was the first CABDA West show for they will have another show called CABDA Midwest on February 13-14 for the fifth time annually.

CABDA West was part indoor and part outdoor with a test area for dealers to ride electric bikes and get a feel for their quality and performance. Day one saw cloudy skies and light rain, but the test track was still open.

– Official CABDA website: https://www.cabda.com/
– CABDA stands for Chicago Area Bike Dealers Association but is now in California as well so perhaps it could also stand for California Area Dealers Association
– 40% above anticipated attendance at CABDA West, and they are expecting 2x next year
– 1,800 registrations for CABDA West was reported to me

Ebike brands I saw at CABDA 2019: Da Vinci Electric Tandem, Felt, iGo, AddMotoR, Bosch, Urban Arrow, GreenBike Electric Motion, Gazelle, Magnum, Tern, Aventon, Wildsyde, Stromer ST1 and ST3, CUBE, BULLS, Electra Café, Poseidon, KHS with MPF Drive, Haro, Yuba, IZIP, Haibike, Raleigh, Gocycle, CERO, Zeitgeist.

Interesting non-ebike highlights: Cush Core foam inserts for running mountain bike tires at low pressure (protects the rim against big impact and supports the sidewalls to reduce tire role and burping, dampen vibration), Green Guru recycled bags and bike accessories. EBR was paid to perform this review #Sponsored We try to be honest, thorough, and fun! Comparison tools, shop directory, and forums at: ElectricBikeReview.com

  6. Hey Court, good overview. I have been looking at some folding bikes and noticed that the Baggi Bikes have fenders, integrated front and rear lights, brake light and turn signals. Very compelling. When you look at Tern and some of the others, please take note of these items….do the bikes have them or not? What about the non folders? Any progress in this area? Thanks, r

  14. Great overview of the Expo. I’d like to know what are the main upgrade or major changes Stromer did for the ST5 in 2019? I saw the new light but is there anything else? Thanks

  19. thank you very much for this video very useful and amazing✔✔✔

  20. Thanks, Court, for taking on a tour of the exhibit hall–and a wild ride on the freestyle track. And that guy in the golf cart was living dangerously, asking a most studious eBike reviewer, "How do you like that bike?" Funny. And then we got to see Surfer Court at the beach.

  21. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍🙏🇵🇷😇

  22. Someday I would like to see a review on the Sondors XS, Enjoy all your videos thanks.

  23. Did Juicedbikes attend that place to display all their bikes? I have the CrossCurrent S e-bike

  24. Great video.

  25. Cool video Court, your hard work is always appreciated 🙂 It would be good to see some reviews on the 2019 Giant range, it seems a while since you covered them! Keep up the great work, 2019 isn’t going to be a great year for the e bike market I’m sure 🙂

  26. Gary Fujioka Sr. January 5, 2021 @ 10:43 pm

  32. Court please try the fish tacos at the brigantine restaurant about 100 yards from where you where at the end of the video

  33. Don Scott Macdonald January 5, 2021 @ 10:51 pm

The Zeitgeist is super stealthy for an ebike (20:45). Small amount of power but very cool design. Would make a nice commuter.

  34. Great tour.

  35. excellent video. love the orange stealth battery bike

  36. Would like to see more on gear to make one experience better.

  37. Pretty cool stuff Court and nice coverage. That Cube Electric looked really stealthy and nice colors to boot. Really like how the motor is integrated into the frame. Wish you could have spent more time in the BH and Haibike booth. Did not see the usual guys from Interbike at those booths though. Took a look at G-Earth at the neighborhood and see some very beautiful ocean-side property. Must be nice in all of that great weather. Enjoy!

  38. I`m dizzy….

  39. Court, I love that you still wear the helmet indoors😂 why change i suppose its pretty much a uniform at this stage🤣

  40. ATTENTION INDUSTRY:As i was made aware of the fact that this expo was only for dealers….. I AM the customer and I AM spending my money… I want to see on an expo what is out there, i want see it all and plan ahead of my investments, and not being restricted of what my dealer has seen on the expo and of his limited selection he can afford to bring in his store. Thats so silly. The eurobike in munich has dealer days and customer days. That makes sense!

  41. Court; as competition for Rad bikes, take a look at DJ Bikes… After months of research (lots with your help!) I bought their folding fat tire WITH front & rear racks, fenders, INTEGRATED lights front & back, 750W-48V-13Ah for $1499 out-the-door.

  42. Juan Alfonso Noval January 5, 2021 @ 11:03 pm

Court, can you look at ebike racks? Now that I have bought a RadCity 2018, I’d like to be able to transport it. You ran by Saris and Kuat, but some info on these would be helpful. Thx. =)

  43. Court do you see any trends happening? I.e. More mid-drives than in past years, or more fat tires, etc..

  44. This is the perfect video for people like me (who always plan to go to these shows but, when the time comes, are too lazy to make the effort)

  45. Fancy a Bev Mate? January 5, 2021 @ 11:06 pm

I wish you had more time to do two to three minutes clips on each stand court 😉 I would have a great two hour video to watch on all the new cool stuff. Thanks anyway for the video.

  46. Love the vids. I just wonder what the mind set is for people that assume if you have an ebike your rich. $149.00 for a tire liner. Yea I can see the line forming now.

  47. You know you’ve been watching EBR on yt a lot, when every time that someone waves at Court on his round you think "Hey, I know the dude that just waved at me!"

  48. As attractive as so many of those ebikes are, manufacturers must realize that operating ebikes in many cities are either illegal or borderline illegal. However like J-walking it is not seriously enforced. But having these attractive ebikes will draw too much attention. They need to keep the ebikes looking like regular bikes.

  50. Thanks nice content thanks a lot, please let us know about Oyama Taiwan : my father used to be their exclusive distributor in Morocco from 1982 until 1993 I guess very nice bikes.
