A2B Metro G2 Various Noises When Pedaling??? Any tips appreciated!
My A2B Metro G2 (at 900+ miles odometer) has started developing annoying noises when pedaling, From knocks at the start of the video (0:50 mark) to a loose creaky noise when pedaling (4:40 mark). The noise varies from knocking to a loose creaking/rattle/ knock (5:50 mark and 7:00 mark). I have yet to resolve this. Chain lube in the axle didn’t work. This only occurs when pedaling, not coasting and not on throttle-only operation. The noise at 9:10 mark is most annoying when riding. Any clues on how to eliminate this noise when pedaling would be much appreciated!
**Another owner has the exact same issue!**: http://youtu.be/h2vCPmrnkZ0
Update #1: I think I found the 11-28T Freewheel. I believe the A2B Metro uses a DNP Epoch Long Yi LY1107, 7-speed, 11/28t freewheel. You will need a Park Tool FR-1 freewheel tool to remove and replace.
Update #2: Apparently it seems this particular freewheel (DNP Epoch 11-28T, 7 speed) has been known to not last very long if not injected with a lithium grease before installation. Apparently from my online research, the stock factory freewheel may be under lubricated. I watched this very informative YouTube video showing how it’s injected with grease to extend its service life and also decrease noise: http://youtu.be/GELBI0ASyZU
Update #3: For the interim fix, I’ve have alleviated the issue by tilting the bike 45 degrees while applying lubricant into the space just behind the 28T (largest cog) of the freewheel. The idea is to let lube work its way in through gravity. I haven’t had the really bad noises in the last 2 rides. There’s still the occassional kncok-knock-knock noise but no more nasty loose/creaky grinding sounds…at least for now. Next would be to gently lay the bike on its side in the grass and lube it.
Update #4: I was just told that the 2012, 7 speed freewheel doesn’t require injection of more grease. The new improved 7 speed from DNP is almost silent, and the grease is sealed inside.Good to know! Available at: http://www.powerinmotion.ca/Dealers.aspx
hi I see that you have the same problem as me. problem is in the rear wheel of seven. this failure will be repeated to me this is a structural defect. I’m A2B Hybrid back in service. I will try to return the defective a2b is repeated every 14 days. I wish you strong nerves, I think that this product really failed. Hi john.

Hero Eco (Ultra Motor) responded and said this: " Sounds like the freewheel might be on it’s last legs, but we won’t know for sure until you have a technician look it over. Otherwise, a freewheel replacement is a quick, easy fix, and you can either find them online or through your local dealer." Now, I’m open to recommendations on a better freewheel to replace the factory stock unit. Can any Metro owners out there recommend a good quality freewheel? Make/model or weblink link appreciated!
For now I just applied a lot of grease to the area between motor and largest gear cog of freeewheel. I tilted the entire bike towards me so the grease would flow into the freewheel.

YouTube does not allow URL’s, so I’ll try it this way:

Sounds like two sets of noises -one from the worn cassette and second(knocking) -wobbly tire hitting the frame or fender .
If you follow this link, you will land in a German forum. Under Reply # 50 I have already addressed the problem. The solution is reported that in case of a guarantee at HeroEco, then you get a new sprocket. The freewheel it breaks down when you drive a lot, without pedaling. At least that is our declaration that we have found. By the manufacturer you will not get a reply.

replace the sprocket and chain
I have been doing much online research on this particular 7 speed freewheel used on A2B Metros and many other electric bikes. Seems like there are many people who have problems with this freewheel. One preventative measure to make it last longer seems to be to inject lithium based grease into the freewheel. Read my updates and see the video link in Update #2 of my description above. There is a link there to a great video about this DNP 11-28T, 7 speed freewheel.
hi the problem is in the bearing. in my case a recurring defect will take effect much sooner. the A2B Hybrid pedals but A2B Metro are using accelerator and the defect occurs later. about 200 km it appears that I heard the sounds on your video. yet if you try moving the 7-speed cassette. Unfortunately I found out components and are not very good quality, I think the company got us ultramotor design but the quality is poor. hi good luck.
Are you referring to the knocking when pedaling or the other noise heard in the later part of the video? I was able to alleviate the creaky noises somewhat by spraying copius amounts of white lithium grease but the knocking remains. I was told DNP Epoch’s 2012 11-28T 7-speed freewheel now has ample grease sealed inside the freewheel bearings so it’s less noisy. I may eventually replace my freewheel but for now it’s the least of my worries as my motor developed unsettling noises and vibration.
Hi John, What do you mean by structural defect? Is it a problem with the 7 speed cassette or feewheel or bearings? Can you elaborate on what the problem is if you know more? I can’t seem to figure it out and adding lube didn’t eliminate the noises. I have already emailed Hero Eco USA and sent them the link to this video and am awaiting a reply. I will let you know if they respond and what they say. I hope there’s a simple solution. These noises happen only when I pedal the bike.
Looks like we have the same problem! I later put a lot of lubricant on the area between the freewheel and motor. Used spray can of Blaster 11 oz. White Lithium Grease The sound is less noticeable now but I think to totally solve it may mean we need to replace DNP Epoch’s 2012 11-28T 7-speed freewheel with newest version that has sufficient grease already packed inside the freewheel from the factory.
Please note: The worse sound can be heard at the 9:13 mark of this video.
A less concerning, clean knocking sound at the 0:50 mark at the start of the video turns into a more disconcerting creaky / loose noise at the later 4:40, 7:00, and 9:10 marks in this video.
Update #4: I was just told that the 2012, 7 speed freewheel doesn’t require injection of more grease. The new improved 7 speed from DNP is almost silent, and the grease is sealed inside.Good to know! I think it’s available at Power in Motion. powerinmotion (dot) ca
