In this episode of DIY or Buy I will show you how to create a proper EBike battery pack. The main components for the build are Li-Ion cells, nickel strips and a BMS. At the end of the project I will then conclude whether DIYing your own battery pack is cheaper than buying a premade one.

    Can i use series connection to full charge my new batteries?
    When i connect them in bms i cant get to full charge, i have 16s2p lifepo4 batteries

    I already spot weld my battery pack but the batteries is not in full charge when i connect them. When i try to charge them all using bms 16s i expect to get a 58.4volts but is it only 53-54volts only please help

    just be sure to add a inline fuse to the charge and discharge lines.

    Ich habe vor mein altes Fahrrad mit einem Nabenmotorsatz von Ebay auszustatten (Motor, Steuergerät, Pedalsensor aber kein Akku). Meine Eltern haben beide eBikes in denen das Bosch Powerpack 400 verbaut ist. Ich als Fuchs hätte da natürlich Lust auch von den Akkus gebrauch zu machen. Ist es irgendwie möglich den Bosch Akku für "nicht Bosch" Fahrräder zu entfremden? Hat jemand eine Möglichkeit gefunden dem Akku ein originales Fahrrad "vorzugaukeln"?

    I have an electric bike with a 48v_250w battery. Can I put a 48v_500w or 1000w battery for it? Will the electric motor damage when I put a bigger lithium battery? Thank you

    I have 3.7 v 1.2ah . So how many time it take to full charge with 4.2v 0.6a(600mah)?

    Good day sir. Can I asked a question? it is okay to use a power supply 30 and 2amp to charge my battery pack? with a bms 10s. I Used to do this project, and I got 37 volts ouput and 5.8A for may output of my battery. I hope you can answer my question.

    Hi, Scott I just want you ask a question, I have 12 volt dc motor and I have to use it with li-ion battery but as you know when battery gets full charged cell reach 16.8 volt(for 4s cell) it’s too much voltage for my dc motor. Do you have any advice what can I do. My dc motor draws 14 amp.(almost 200watt). I hope you see that comment.

  17. Most computer power cords wouldn’t handle the amps of most e-bike batteries, might be common oversight.

    SO no, its cheaper to buy replacement pack than make your own if you dont have "friend" who sells legit cells for 3bucks and you dont have few master degrees in electronics and shiz.

  24. One thing about DIY is you have knowledge of the quality of the cells. I wonder if the commercial batteries use the cheap china cells that go bad early!

    You had 26 cells, 26×3,7=96,2V, you have high voltage? You only needed 48,1V?

  36. li-ion is garbage… its only rated for 500 charges compared to lifepo4 2000+ charges. Also li-ion is dangerous and obsolete tech by now. I do hate cyllindrical cells passionately since it requires spot welding – there are now cheap 50 ah prismatic lifepo4 cells, no need to make your life miserable.

  37. i have ended up with 50kg of laptop batteries under my ownership and need transport to get a job, but can’t afford a motorcycle. I think DIY might be the winner for me since a BMS, nickel, welder, wire, connector, printer filament, tape and charger would cost ~70GBP and there are 1kW conversion kits for 160GBP which totals around 250GBP for a conversion, albeit one can motorize a bicycle for 100GBP (+20 for oil threadlocker & other items needed to do the best quality job) if they were willing to give up their rear disc brake, however such a motorization is significantly more unreliable and is more illegal than riding an E-bike at more than jogging speed, but who cares really?

    If you make it your self you learn something new, and you can always change the battery pack. Split it in 4 smaller, merge into an even bigger, make it charge other stuff like drones, phones, raspberry pi and what not. The batteries you buy finished you cant just charge diff stuff with them.

  45. I am planning to make a bettery pack, 5ah 10s. But I have 20 batteries with a rated capacity of 2000Mah, and 30 batteries with rated 2400Mah, is it possible to put then together in a battery pack? Would the difference in capacity cause issues? Please !
